godless youth
Directed by Alain Gsponer (2017), In German; English subtitles. 115 min.
"Godless Youth," inspired by Ödön von Horváth's novel Jugend ohne Gott, unfolds in a dystopian society where conformity is enforced and individuality is suppressed. The story follows a disillusioned teacher who becomes increasingly aware of the moral implications of the regime's indoctrination of his students. As he witnesses their struggle between loyalty to the state and to their own identities, he confronts the dark consequences of a society that prioritizes obedience over humanity, echoing von Horváth's critique of social pressures and authoritarianism.
