Alma Maria Schindler Mahler Gropius Werfel, known to all as Alma Mahler, once regarded as “the most beautiful girl in Vienna,” was romantically involved with the greatest artists of her day, from Kokoschka and Klimt to Korngold, Schoenberg, Berg, Pfitzner, Zemlinsky, and even Bernstein. This entertaining evening will shed light on this remarkable femme fatale through art songs, cabaret tunes, satirical songs and vocal duets interspersed with brief selections from her own writings.

CABARET AT CAFÉ SABARSKY

Cabaret at Café Sabarsky in the Neue Galerie continues its unique series devoted primarily to German and Austrian music of the 1890s to 1930s. The intimate 60-seat room is exquisitely appointed with period objects, including lighting fixtures by Josef Hoffmann and furniture by Adolf Loos, and features a Bösendorfer grand piano.

Performances are at 9 p.m., preceded by a prix-fixe dinner at 7 p.m. Ticket cost is $140 per person for these special performances. ($75 dinner, $65 performance. Guests must attend both dinner and the performance. Performance fees are charged upon booking; dinner is charged at the completion of the meal. Tax, gratuity, and beverages are not included.) 

Held in conjunction with the exhibition "Franz Marc and August Macke: 1909-1914", on view at the Neue Galerie from October 4, 2018 to January 21, 2019.
